Diehl Wing SkinsI will be using the skins with custom ribs that I will plot using the AS5046 airfoil and the Profili software package. By matching the circumference of the RAF-48 and AS5046 airfoils I can adjust the cord at each wing station so that the ribs will be an exact replacement. Everything will fit but the airfoil section will be modified. The link to the Diehl Aeronautical web site is http://www.diehlaero.com. The wing skin installation documentation on the Diehl Aeronautical web site is http://www.diehlaero.com/KR-2%20Wing%20skin%20installation.htm. If the site is not available I have made a backup copy of Diehl Aeronautical wing page

Profile is a freeware software package that you can use to generate plots of a particular airfoil section. The archive file profili.zip contains the airfoil coordinates for over 1800 airfoils. I have also added the RAF-48 and AS5046 airfoils to the database.

This setup shows a great way to be able to get the KR aileron hinge pin out without drilling a hole through the wing tip and wrestling with a single long pin. It works for any pin hinge. After you attach your aileron, pull the pin out. Grind the center eye off the aileron hinge and two eyes off the wing hinge. Remember, only grind off the eyes, do not cut the hinge into two piece. This leaves you an 1.5" slot in the middle of the hinge. Cut the pin in the dead center of the slot and bend those two .75" pieces 90 degrees. Now you have two pins that you can take out from the center of the wing. Just more food for thought. You can see what I am talking about at the following address. These pics show better what I was talking about in how to trim both side of piano hinge to allow you to remove the hinge pin, or pins, in this case without having to drill a hole on an outboard or inboard section to allow the pin to come out full size. This pic show the two eyes removed from the wing side and the center one removed from, in this case the flap or a KR the aileron side of the hinge. Aileron Hinge Pin Photo 2 This pic shows the two halves mated together leaving a 1.5" slot. Aileron Hinge Pin Photo 3 This pic shows the pin position center of the hinge for the cut mark and .75 marks for the 90 degree bends. Aileron Hinge Pin Photo 4 This shows what the final arrangement looks like. Looking back, I believe you can do this before you mount the hinge as the flat stock is never cut and you will insert the pins anyway before you attach the hinge to a spar. Aileron Hinge Pin Photo 5 For my final assembly, the elbows will be positioned inside the joint with small holes drilled so that safety wire can be inserted. Yes, the bends do come out of that 1.5" slot. Dana Overall Richmond, KY 1999 & 2000 National KR Gathering host http://rvflying.tripod.com _____________________________________________________
Following post was given on KRnet by Virgil Salisbury answering the question how to make lenses for position lights in Virg's typical short style:
