Pictures of the Week October 25, 2002
This week I made the lines for the air-oil-separator and the remaining oil cooler line. It was very difficult to work with the -6 Aeroquip hose compared to the -10 hose. It was very sensative to being cut off squarely. If there was the slightest amount of looseness in the steel braid it would be pushed back by the fitting which loosened the braid and made it impossible to get it into the fitting. Several attempts were required to get a good joint. The -10 fittings went on very easily.
These two pictures show the
area behind the 90 deg 1/2" npt to -10 5/8" hose crank case breather
fitting. This area had to be clearanced by grinding off the
vertical flange that was part of the cooling air block off in the auto
installation to provide clearance for the fitting and hose connecting.
This photo shows the
Air-Oil-Separator engine oil drain hose. The 90 deg 1/4" npt to -6
elbow that connects to the crankcase needs to be tapped approximately
3/16" deeper to provide proper clearance to the intercooler inlet
tube. There is some interference inside the case that needs to be
relieved to allow the hole to be tapped deeper. I have added this to
the continued item list to be accomplished when the engine is disassembled
later.
This shows completion of the
oil cooler lines. It required a 45 degree union to allow the two
hoses to exit the oil cooler block off plate and feed directly
aft.
