Pictures of the Week                                            September 26, 2002

Next step is mounting the oil cooler.  I decided to mount it to the firewall on the right side of the engine.  The location ended up corresponding with the top engine mount fuselage mounting back plate.  There was one an3 mounting bolt for the back plate that matched up with the oil cooler bracket.  I drilled a hole in the bracket and test mounted the oil cooler on the firewall.  I had to remove the back plate to drill it and attach the nut plates to mount the oil cooler bracket through the firewall into the back plate.

This turned out to be a major deal because I had to remove the top engine mount bolts, and the rudder peddles before I could get the back plate out.  It had been installed wet with epoxy and it did not come loose easily.  Persistence overcame epoxy and I got it out without damaging anything.  The two pictures above show the bracket after it was drilled on the back plate so that the holes would be exactly lined up.

I remounted the back plate and drilled the holes in the firewall for the oil cooler bracket.  Then I removed the back plate, again, and mounted the nut plates on the back plate for the oil cooler bracket mounting bolts.

I started to drill the oil cooler mounting bolt holes and found out the my 1/4" inch bolt spot facing bit is completely worn out.  I'll need to find a new one before I can proceede.
